|A Folk Legacy Songwriter
Jerry Rasmussen is a folk and gospel singer and songwriter, and an award-winning Christian author.
Jerry began performing at the Gaslight Café in Greenwich Village in the early ‘60’s, when Bob Dylan, Dave Van Ronk, Peter, Paul and Mary, John Sebastian. and Richie Havens were starting their careers. He has shared the stage with Pete Seeger, and the Highwaymen, and performed in the first Hootenanny at Town Hall with John Hammond, Jr. He has been compared to Garrison Keillor and his songs have been featured on Prairie Home
Companion. He has performed in concerts and folk festivals from Massachusetts to Missouri and did a concert for PBS as part of the In the Tradition series. His songs have appeared in folk journals and magazines, including Sing Out! magazine and they have been recorded by more than twenty other musicians.
Jerry’s first book,
The Gate of Beautiful is a collection of stories, songs and reflections on Christian Life. It was awarded first place in the 2010 EVVY awards for independent publishers and was one of six finalists in the National Best Book Awards of 2009. He has released five CDs of his own music, and one with his gospel quartet, The Gospel Messengers.
